Apogee Technology introduces the Sensilica series of "all-silicon" pressure sensors. Compared to existing products, the company's first MEMS products offer considerable advantages in size, cost, performance and reliability. In addition, Apogee plans to introduce six new Sensilica products during the year to meet the demand for pressure sensors in the industrial, consumer, automotive, medical and HVAC sectors.
The key advantage of Apogee's Sensilica sensors is the use of novel manufacturing and design methods that reduce the size of the sensor by a factor of four compared to existing products. This product eliminates the need for multiple components for pressure sensing, thereby effectively reducing costs and increasing product reliability. In addition, the Sensilica sensor is rugged enough to effectively reduce sensor failure under overvoltage conditions.
The first Sensilica product is a sensor die with 0-75 psi pressure per square inch, making it ideal for OEMs looking for low cost, high performance absolute pressure sensing measurement products in very small sizes. The company has launched engineering samples and is scheduled to be mass-produced in the second half of 2005.
