Seven-thousand-thousand-thick ultraviolet laser Raman spectrometer successfully passed the sea test certificate

    【Chinese instrument network instrument R&D】 Recently, the 7km-class deepwater in-situ detection UV laser Raman spectroscopy developed by the Institute of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Dalian Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, such as Academician Li Can, Research Fellow Fengmin Feng, and Senior Engineer Huang Baokun, successfully passed 7,000 meters in the Mariana Trench. Test verification.

    The spectrometer is the first international UV laser Raman spectrometer for deep-sea exploration, and also created the highest deep-sea detection record (7,449 m) for Raman spectroscopy. The successful research and development of this instrument will enhance our ability to detect deep sea deposits, energy resources (natural gas hydrates), carbon cycle and climate change, and deep-sea biological information.
    The abyssal scientific expedition team of the Chinese Academy of Sciences went to the Mariana Trench to perform scientific and technological tasks such as the strategic B pilot project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the “Study on key scientific and technological issues of the sea stern abyss”, and the key special projects of the national key research and development program “Key technologies and equipment in the deep sea”. The in-situ experiment number, Wanquan number, and Tianya abyss lander successfully tested and applied a series of deep-sea equipment independently developed by China, including the successful application of the spectrometer.
    The deep-water UV laser Raman spectrometer is the deepest Raman spectrometer at home and abroad. It is also the first deep-sea in situ Raman spectrometer using UV laser as the excitation spectrum at home and abroad. The R&D of the instrument is based on the years of R&D experience and academic accumulation of the UV-Raman spectrometer by the Li Can team (National Natural Science Second Prize, 2011, Second National Technical Invention Award, 1997), further improving the sensitivity of detection, and in particular solving Conventional Raman spectroscopy is susceptible to the disadvantages of marine microbiological and organic fluorescence interference. In addition, under deep sea conditions, the spectrometer is exposed to extreme conditions such as high pressure (about 700 atmospheres) and landing impact, which imposes stringent requirements on the performance of the spectrometer. The research team through scientific design, repeated verification, the use of folding mirrors, optical fiber soft connections and coaxial mirrors and a series of technologies, successfully developed to meet the application of ultra-dark ultraviolet Raman spectroscopy instruments.
    This project is a project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' strategic category B pilot project, “Study on the Forefront of Scientific and Technological Problems in the Abyss of the Sea Drift”. It is led by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and cooperated with the Sanya Deep Ocean Institute. The Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is mainly responsible for the development of spectroscopic instruments.
