On February 13, 2012, Volkswagen announced sales data for commercial vehicles in January. The sales of commercial vehicles for the month continued last year's growth, with sales from 35,700 units in January 2011 up 10.5% year-on-year to 39,500 units.
In January this year, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles sold 20,500 vehicles in the Western European market, a year-on-year increase of 6.7% compared to 19,150 vehicles last year. At the same time, in January, the highest volume of commercial vehicle sales in the European market was in the German market, with sales of 8,800 units, a year-on-year increase of 18.1% compared to 7,500 units last year. In the Eastern European market, the sales volume was 2,800 units, an increase of 49.9% from the previous year.
South America became the largest market outside of the European market for mass commercial vehicles. In January, it sold 11,800 units, a year-on-year increase of 14.2% compared to 10,400 units last year.
