Xichai "Ao Shen" unveiled at the 7th Beijing International Bus Show
The 7th Beijing International Bus and Parts Exhibition in 2009 took place at the Beijing Exhibition Hall from February 28 to March 2. FAW Jiefang Xichai showcased its products with a 100-square-meter booth, featuring several diesel engines that meet the National IV emission standards. These included the CA6DN1-46E3 (Olympus), CA6DM2-42E3 (Aoshen), CA6DL2-35E3 (Aowei), CA6DL1-26E4 (Aowei), CA6SL1-26E4, CA6DF3-24E3, and CA4DF3-17E3 models. The highlight of the exhibition was the CA6DM2 (Aoshen) diesel engine, a high-end model developed by FAW Jiefang to better meet market demands.
CA6DM2 (Aoshen) is China's first heavy-duty diesel engine with top-mounted camshaft and four-valve technology, aligning with global trends in diesel engine development. It features a compact structure and high intake efficiency, with power output ranging from 272 to 309 kW (370 to 420 hp). Its B10 life exceeds 800,000 kilometers, reaching international advanced levels. The engine also meets national emission regulations and has strong potential for future upgrades. It uses the Bosch CP2.2 + fuel system, including high-pressure pumps and injectors, which are similar to those used in the CA6DN1 (Olympic) National Three diesel engine. This ensures good compatibility, reliability, and improved fuel economy, with a full-load fuel consumption rate below 193 g/kWh, making it one of the best in China’s heavy-duty diesel engine market.
Key technical highlights of the CA6DM2 (Aoshen) include:
- A self-developed engine braking device that delivers up to 180 kW of braking power at rated speed, ensuring safe and reliable driving.
- An overhead camshaft cylinder head with a patented cross-flow water double-jacket design, offering more uniform cooling and higher structural stiffness. It can withstand in-cylinder pressures over 200 bar, enhancing overall reliability.
- A modular design for integrated cooling and filtration systems, where components like oil filters and pressure regulators are compatible with the CA6DN1 (Olympic) engine, providing high versatility.
- A compact and fully functional front-end accessory drive system, with high interchangeability among parts.
- An engineering plastic cylinder head cover made from materials sourced from internationally renowned suppliers, offering excellent heat resistance, cold resistance, and impact strength. The full-floating installation method reduces noise and weight, while a PTO output device on the rear flywheel housing provides 1200 Nm of torque—the highest among similar models in China—suitable for large concrete mixers.
The design emphasizes cost-effectiveness and reliability, with over 95% of components sourced from domestic suppliers, including pistons, piston rings, bearings, superchargers, and filters. Major parts such as the fuel system are supplied by well-known international companies, ensuring a favorable price-to-performance ratio.
Currently, the CA6DM2 (Aoshen) engine is being mass-installed in FAW Jiefang’s J5 and J6 heavy trucks. It has been widely adopted in provinces such as Anhui, Zhejiang, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Fujian, Henan, and Inner Mongolia, receiving positive feedback from users.
The CA6DM2 (Aoshen) is an ideal power solution for trucks weighing 30 to 40 tons, passenger vehicles measuring 10 to 13.7 meters, loaders, luxury yachts, and cement mixers. Its exceptional performance enhances the competitiveness of the FAW e-liberation platform. The product platform expansion has further strengthened the J6 heavy truck’s position as the most suitable vehicle for the Chinese market. Additionally, the CA6DM2 engine has started supplying passenger cars to Suzhou Jinlong.
