"Black Technology" nano-LED array can achieve the dual functions of light and light

    Researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Dow Electronic Materials in Marlborough, Mass., Recently published research in Science in the United States. They showcased a new type of colloidal semiconductor nanorods that allow a single device to generate electroluminescence while producing a photoelectric effect to generate electricity and convert electrical energy into light energy.

    These nanorods, which are less than 5 nanometers in diameter, are composed of three semiconductor materials, one of which emits and absorbs visible light and the other two are used to control the flow of charge within the first material. The three materials work together to make the LED panel emit light while sensing external lighting and make brightness adjustments.

    Due to the fast switching between the two functions of light and light, this LED does not recognize this switching with the naked eye, so the display panel looks lit. At the same time, unlike current light sensors on handsets, metering and dimming of LED panels take place at the pixel level, so not only can the brightness of the panel be adjusted according to the external ambient light but also the flickering of the finger over the top of the screen Subtle light differences, allowing non-touch screen gestures.

    The researchers also found that the LED, while emitting light, absorbs external light and converts it into electricity, similar to what solar panels do, so future handsets using the LED screen can also be recharged by light to become "Self-powered" phone.

    In addition, this new LED display can serve as a large parallel communication array for big data exchange with each other.

    At present, researchers have successfully demonstrated the related functions with a new red LED array. Attempts to combine three-color red, blue and green LEDs for color array display and improve the light absorption capacity of the LED by adjusting the composition of the nanorods.
