This message comes from Brian Murphy:
Here are some newspaper clippings from the Waukegan News-Sun, featuring a major fire at the former Giess-Plfeger Tanning Company on Waukegan’s Lakefront. The fire took place on November 15, 1973, and involved a large portion of the building—constructed with heavy timber and used as a mill. At the time, the structure was being demolished after it had been sold to Commonwealth Edison. The Waukegan Generating Station is located just next to the site.
I apologize for the poor quality of these clippings—they’ve been sitting in a shoebox for over 40 years, so they’re not in the best shape. If anyone has memories of this fire or can share any details, I’d love to hear from you.
Best regards,
Brian Murphy
