It is reported that Germany's largest shipping company, Hapag-Lloyd, will use GEA's chemical-free UV ballast water treatment system to install on its container fleet of container ships.
In April 2015, GEA's BallastMaster ultraV 500 ballast water treatment system has been technically certified for acceptance and will be installed on the Panama Express container ship.
According to Tilo Pfützke, GEA's ballast water project manager, “Since the processing capacity has reached 500 cubic meters per hour, our DNV-GL classification society certified ballast water treatment system through mechanical pre-filtration plus subsequent UV-C And the ultrasonic disinfection of the ballast water can carry out the required ballast water cleaning process. Therefore, the 294-meter-long 'London Express' Panamax container ship can be used all over the world to meet the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)-D-2 standard, and Can make a positive contribution to the protection of marine ecosystems."
Thanks to its flexible design, the BallastMaster ultraV 500's custom modular integration meets the existing ship infrastructure requirements of the “London Express†Panamax container ship that was put into operation in 1998. Following the upgrade of the BallastMaster ballast water treatment system, Hapag-Lloyd has voluntarily installed the ship's ballast water treatment system on the "London Express" Panamax container ship in accordance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization Convention.
