**BANGKOK, September 12, 2017** – In a significant move to preserve and share Thailand’s rich cultural heritage, the National Discovery Museum Institute (NDMI) has partnered with Autodesk to launch an ambitious project aimed at digitizing artifacts from over 1,500 museums across the country using Autodesk ReMake.
The initiative will transform 2D images and scans of historical objects into high-resolution 3D digital replicas. These digital assets will be made available on NDMI’s website, offering global audiences an immersive way to explore Thai history and culture through virtual experiences.
Rames Promyen, Director of NDMI, emphasized the importance of the collaboration during a press briefing at Autodesk University ASEAN. “This project is crucial for us. We are racing against time to protect our cultural treasures, and it's impossible to display all of them in physical exhibitions. As Thailand moves toward a more digital future, we want to engage the younger generation with interactive tools that make learning about our past both fun and accessible.â€
In 2016, NDMI conducted a pilot project using laser scanners, but the process was costly and required advanced technical skills that were not feasible for all museums. That’s why they chose Autodesk ReMake—a user-friendly tool that allows even those with little 3D modeling experience to create detailed 3D models from simple 2D images or scans.
To kick off the program, NDMI and Autodesk have launched a training initiative targeting five regional museums:
- **Central region**: Museum Siam and Thammasat Chalermprakiat Museum
- **Northern region**: Chiang Mai National Museum
- **Northeast region**: Sakon Nakhon Museum
- **Southern region**: Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Cultural Studies
- **Western region**: Sa Ko Si Narai Museum
Arpaporn Suporntip, Autodesk’s Country Manager for Thailand, said, “We’re proud to support this important effort. Once these artifacts are digitized, the possibilities are endless. We can use augmented reality to bring history to life, or even print 3D replicas to share with people around the world.â€
Promyen added, “This is just the beginning. Over time, we plan to expand our digital collection each year, making our cultural heritage more accessible and engaging for everyone.â€
