OceanSaver's new ballast water technology halved

On June 15, Norwegian OceanSaver announced that its new generation of advanced ballast water treatment system Mark II will reduce energy consumption by more than 50% compared to previous technologies.

It is reported that the Mark II, which was developed by OceanSaver, optimizes the filtration step, eliminating the need for cavitation and deoxidation of ballast water, and the steps are more compact. By improving the corrosion and coating properties of ballast tanks, nitrogen supersaturation provides space for shipowners to reduce maintenance costs, especially for newbuildings and special ships.

Previously, the OceanSaver system was suitable for large complex ships. According to Tor Atle Eiken, senior vice president of sales and promotion at the company, the new MARK II technology is also suitable for medium-sized ships (35,000-80000dwt) and space-constrained conversion vessels.

It is understood that the Mark II type approval is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.
