Skokie responds to man trapped under a car

On August 30, 2011, at around 3:00 PM, Jeff Rudolph captured a dramatic scene in the 7700 block of Kilbourn in Skokie. The incident began as a call about a child trapped under a vehicle, prompting Skokie Fire Department to send a full extrication team including two engines, a ladder truck, a squad, an ambulance, and a battalion chief. Upon arrival, Engine 16 discovered that the situation was not what it seemed — it was actually an adult male, who had been slightly intoxicated. He had jacked up one side of his car to work on the exhaust system and accidentally got stuck underneath. His friend, also under the influence, tried to assist but only worsened the situation. When Squad 18 arrived, they chocked the vehicle and used airbags to lift it just enough to free the man. He emerged with only minor abrasions and declined medical transport. Despite the mishap, he still needed to fix his exhaust. The firefighters worked efficiently to ensure his safe removal, showcasing their training and quick response. Jeff Rudolph captured several photos from the scene, showing the fire department in action. One image highlights the use of airbags to lift the car, while another shows the man being freed. Additional photos include shots of the tower ladder and battalion chief responding to the call. These images provide a behind-the-scenes look at how the Skokie Fire Department handles emergency situations, even when the initial report turns out to be a misunderstanding.
