The fourth generation of free electron laser source in Europe is put into use

    In the modern science and technology, the demand for high brightness, short pulse, tunable advanced laser sources is increasing. Advanced laser source, the research of new materials, life sciences, new drug research and development will be indispensable.
    The high-brightness, short-pulse synchronized light source from the Sincrotrone in Trieste, Italy, provides a thorough study of the surface structure and intrinsic behavior of matter both at the atomic and molecular levels and is an integral part of electronic science, environmental protection, drug discovery , Medical diagnosis, engineering and nanotechnology research and development of effective tools.
    Sincrotrone Trieste has two lasers: Elettra and Fermi. Elettra is a third-generation synchronous laser that has been in operation for many years. Fermi, the fourth generation of free-electron lasers, emerged as a light in December 2010, before entering the user validation and testing phases. In 2010, the Risk-Sharing Financial Plan (RSFF), jointly established by the European Commission and the European Investment Bank, invested 20 million euros to launch user verification research in the final phase of FERMMI. Fermi has recently been put into operation.
    The fourth generation of light Fermi is by far the world's most advanced free electron light source, which provides an effective tool for researchers to study the chemical and physical phenomena of matter and their interactions at a more micro level. Trieste's fourth-generation light source is open to public and private research institutions around the world and is a major infrastructure project for research in the European Research Area.
    RSFF is a policy financial instrument jointly established by European Commission and European Investment Bank. Supporting large-scale technology infrastructure is one of the key tasks of RSFF.
