Recently, Thordon Bearings received a major contract to supply COMPAC seawater-lubricated propeller bearing solutions to two container ships being built by Matson Shipping for the Aker Philadelphia shipyard. 
The order represents Thordon Bearing's first large container ship order, a landmark contract and the largest commercial ship propeller shaft for COMPAC bearings.
It is reported that the two 3600TEU Aloha-class container ships are the largest container ships built in the United States. They are expected to be delivered in the third and fourth quarters of 2018. They are 259 meters long and are classified as DNV GL classification societies with double-shell fuel tanks.
Each ship will be equipped with a COMPAC bearing system for 930mm diameter bearings to drive 8.1m diameter fixed pitch propellers. Thordon Bearing's supply range includes COMPAC elastic bearings, Thordon water quality packages and more.
