According to the relevant person in charge of the Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, with the sustained and rapid development of the economy and society, the rigid demand for car purchases is strong, and the number of car ownership in China continues to show a rapid growth trend. In 2014, the number of newly registered vehicles was 21.88 million, and the net increase of the number of possession was 17.07 million. Both indicators reached the highest level in history.
There are more than one million cars in 35 cities across the country, and more than 2 million in 10 cities in Beijing, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Shanghai, Suzhou, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Zhengzhou.
By the end of 2014, China's small passenger vehicles reached 117 million, of which 105 million were private cars, accounting for 90.16%, an increase of 19.89% compared with 2013. The country has an average of 25 private cars per 100 households, of which 63 are in every 100 households in Beijing, and more than 40 in every 100 households in Guangzhou and Chengdu.
Statistics show that the average annual increase of motor vehicles in the past five years is more than 15 million; the number of motorists has also shown a significant growth trend, with an average annual increase of 20.57 million. As of the end of last year, the number of motorists in China exceeded 300 million, including more than 246 million motorists, accounting for 81.62% of the total number of drivers.
