A few days ago, Wärtsilä received a contract to supply waterjets for newly built high-speed ferries. The ship was built by the Australian Incat Tasmania shipyard for a new high-speed ferry built by Virtu Ferries of Malta. The contract was signed in March 2017 with Wärtsilä. Upon delivery, the vessel will be the largest high-speed catamaran operating in the Mediterranean, with a service speed of 38 knots. 
It is reported that Wärtsilä will provide four Wärtsilä LJX1500SRI waterjets and a Lipstronic thruster control system. The equipment is scheduled to be delivered in April 2018 and the ferry will be delivered to the shipowner by the end of 2018.
Arto Lehtinen, vice president of propellers at Wärtsilä Shipbuilding Solutions, said, “This new ferry will be a large and powerful high-speed ferry. Choosing a Wärtsilä waterjet will ensure that the ferry is fast, efficient and efficient. Reliable operation."
Wärtsilä's modular waterjets are designed with a compact axial flow pump for high efficiency and low cavitation noise. The components are made of stainless steel to prevent wear and corrosion. Water-lubricated bearings are also environmentally friendly.
The 110m long wave catamaran will operate between Malta and Sicily and will be completed in approximately 90 minutes. The four lounges on the ferry's two passenger compartments can accommodate up to 900 passengers. The ship can also provide an equivalent of 490 meters for 167 cars.
