Wheeling house fire 1-14-11

The Wheeling Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 100 block of Manchester Drive West around 7:30 PM this evening. Residents called in reports of flames coming from an attached garage at 115 Manchester Drive. Upon arrival, the first units found the garage well involved and upgraded the call to a Code 4, which triggered mutual aid from neighboring departments including Northbrook, Lincolnshire, Buffalo Grove, and Arlington Heights. At the time of the incident, some local units were already engaged elsewhere, which meant fewer resources were available for the initial response. Despite this, crews quickly attacked the fire, which had extended slightly into the attic. Thanks to their swift action, the damage to the main structure of the home was minimized.
