Wheeling house fire 1-14-11

The Wheeling Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 100 block of Manchester Drive West around 7:30 PM this evening. Initial calls reported a fire in an attached garage at 115 Manchester Drive. First-arriving units quickly recognized the severity and upgraded the call to a Code 4, which brought in mutual aid from neighboring departments including Northbrook, Lincolnshire, Buffalo Grove, and Arlington Heights. At the time, some Wheeling units were already deployed elsewhere, which meant fewer resources were available for the initial response. Despite that, firefighters made a rapid attack on the garage fire, which had extended slightly into the attic. Thanks to their quick actions, the fire was contained before it could cause significant damage to the main structure of the home.
