BIM surge: New study reveals dramatic acceleration of digital transformation

Over the past 20 years, BIM has evolved from a promising concept into a fundamental tool shaping the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. For a long time, we were stuck at the "tipping point" of BIM adoption—but that’s no longer the case. Today, BIM is not just popular; it's the industry standard. It's driving AEC toward a more data-centric and efficient future. The *BIM SmartMarket Report*, a new global study by Dodge Data & Analytics in collaboration with Autodesk, offers deep insights into how professionals across the AEC sector are using BIM and leveraging its power to transform workflows and project outcomes.
Read the full report findings here.
According to the report, 60% of architects and 51% of MEP and structural engineers now use BIM on at least half of their projects. These numbers are expected to rise dramatically—projecting to reach 89% and 80%, respectively, within the next two to three years. One of the most notable shifts has been in civil engineering. Around 70% of civil engineers have adopted BIM since 2016, marking a significant increase. This trend highlights how BIM is becoming essential for infrastructure projects, expanding its role beyond traditional building design. **High-intensity BIM drives real results** There’s a clear reason behind this surge in BIM adoption: firms are realizing the tangible business benefits of digital transformation. These include enhanced client satisfaction, better design quality, reduced risk, fewer errors, and improved sustainability and operational efficiency. But it’s not just about using BIM—it’s about how much you use it. The more BIM you integrate into your workflow, the greater the returns. The report shows that BIM intensity directly correlates with the progress of digital transformation and the extent to which companies see value from their investment. Interestingly, nearly half (47%) of high-intensity BIM users are close to achieving full digital transformation, compared to only 26% of those with lower BIM usage. **Common Data Environments: A game-changer** One of the biggest advantages of BIM is the ability to collaborate through a common data environment (CDE), often supported by cloud-based platforms. Most BIM users rely on CDEs to share information with their teams, and contractors report the highest value from this approach. [Image: Chart showing CDE usage and benefits] **Reduced risk with increased BIM use** Risk management is always a top concern in design and construction. The report reveals that over 75% of designers see medium to very high benefits from BIM in six key areas related to risk reduction. [Image: Chart illustrating risk reduction benefits] As BIM intensity increases, so does the effectiveness of risk mitigation. High-intensity BIM users experience better complexity management, fewer errors, and stronger alignment with client expectations. **What comes next?** This data is exciting because it shows how quickly the AEC industry is embracing digital transformation. BIM has always been about data, but its true potential was limited by low adoption rates. Now, with widespread use across all sectors—from architects to engineers to contractors—we're witnessing a shift in how projects are planned, executed, and managed. In a special interview for the report, Phil Bernstein from Yale University said, “I hope that as the industry faces challenges like climate change, social inequality, labor shortages, and supply chain issues, we will leverage tools like BIM—and eventually AI—to optimize the entire delivery process.” As BIM continues to shape the future of the AEC industry, new opportunities for digital innovation will emerge. We’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible. I encourage you to read the full report and explore the data for yourself. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how BIM is transforming the way we build, collaborate, and innovate.

    PU Resin For Synthetic Leather

PU resin, also known as polyurethane resin, is widely used in the production of synthetic leather. Synthetic leather, also referred to as faux leather or artificial leather, is a man-made fabric that imitates the appearance and feel of genuine leather. PU resin is a key component in the manufacturing process of synthetic leather, as it provides the material with its durability, flexibility, and water resistance.

The process of producing synthetic leather involves coating a fabric substrate, such as polyester or nylon, with a layer of PU resin. This resin is typically applied in liquid form and then undergoes a curing process to solidify and bond with the fabric. The resulting material has a leather-like texture and appearance.

PU resin offers several advantages for synthetic leather production. It has excellent abrasion resistance, making the synthetic leather more durable and long-lasting. It also provides flexibility, allowing the material to be easily shaped and molded into different forms. Additionally, PU resin offers good water resistance, preventing the synthetic leather from absorbing moisture and becoming damaged.

Moreover, PU resin can be customized to achieve different finishes and textures, such as smooth, grainy, or embossed patterns, depending on the desired aesthetic. It can also be colored in various shades to mimic different types of leather. This versatility makes PU resin a popular choice for synthetic leather manufacturers.

Overall, PU resin plays a crucial role in the production of synthetic leather, providing the material with its desirable qualities of durability, flexibility, and water resistance.
