Environmental protection is Bosch's focus in China

Franz Ferenbach, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bosch Group, stated that “China is undoubtedly the main driving force behind Bosch’s growth in Asia.” On October 15, 2009, Bosch commemorated its 100th anniversary in China, the Bosch Group’s Board of Directors Chairman Franz Fehringbach came to China and personally announced the future development direction of Bosch. It goes without saying that in the context of the global financial crisis, Bosch has increased its "dependence" and confidence in the Chinese market. At the same time, Finn Bach faced the media, admitting that new energy technologies, renewable energy sources and power such as electricity drive The "green environmental protection" business such as the electrification technology of the assembly will be the focus of Bosch's future development in China.

China Market: Expected to increase by 15% this year

In 2009, Bosch expects sales in China will reach about 2.6 billion euros (24 billion yuan), an increase of 15% from last year. Although Bosch's business in China is expected to achieve sustained growth, the global economic downturn has had an inevitable impact on the overall business of the Bosch Group. Fehrenbach said that in 2009 Bosch Group's sales are expected to drop by 15% to around 38 billion euros. “China's market potential for technological innovations in resource conservation and energy efficiency is encouraging us and Bosch will further deepen its development in China.” Feirunbach responded with sound and set the tone for Bosch's future development in China. Today, with more than 20,000 employees in China, Bosch has become the country with the largest number of employees except Germany.

Bosch’s confidence in the Chinese market is also reflected in its continued investment in China. Bosch's investment in China has increased nearly sixfold, from 52 million euros (4.9 billion yuan) in 2003 to about 290 million euros (3 billion yuan) in 2008. Although the global economic recession has slowed Bosch's investment in other regions, Bosch's investment in China is as usual. In 2009, Bosch invested approximately 160 million euros (1.5 billion yuan) in China, especially investing in future-oriented renewable energy and powertrain electrification technologies.

Cooperation with SAIC Motor: Development of Electric Vehicle Technology

The development of future electric vehicles is another major task after Bosch's "hundred years". Ferienbach expresses that Bosch has strengthened its R&D work on alternative automotive transmission systems and fully supports China’s goal of achieving “new energy vehicle” growth to 500,000 vehicles in 2011.

By the end of 2009, about 35 engineers will be in the electric drive and hybrid power business unit of the joint venture of Bosch and SAIC Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd., specializing in powertrain electrification projects. In the near future, the number of engineers will increase to about 100.

However, Bosch will spare no effort to further improve the traditional transmission technology in the transition to the development of electric vehicle technology.

Feirunbach believes that the internal combustion engine will remain the technology of choice in the global market for the next two decades. By further optimizing the internal combustion engine technology, its fuel consumption can be reduced by another 30%. Bosch's advanced technologies include gasoline direct injection technology, start/stop systems and high-efficiency generators that can successfully achieve this goal.

Localization of ABS and ESP: annual output will exceed 1 million units

In addition, in the area of Bosch's consistently outstanding automotive safety products, Fehrenbach said that in the future, Bosch will continue to increase the production of ABS antilock braking systems and ESP electronic stabilization programs. "The localization rate for the new generation of ABS products to be launched in 2010 will be as high as 85%."

He disclosed that as of the third quarter of 2009, the Suzhou plant had produced one million systems, creating yet another new annual production record. "The contribution of ESP electronic stability program to road safety has been recognized by many countries' governments and it is legislatively mandated to install ESP electronic stability procedures for new vehicles in the coming years." Fehrenbach estimates that the installation rate of ESP in China is expected to increase exponentially. From 7% this year to 22% in 2014.
