Nissan raises the price of domestic commercial vehicles by 1 to 3% from October 1st

Nissan Motor has announced that it will raise the prices of six commercial vehicles, including minivans and small trucks, in Japan starting from October 1. The price increases will range from 30,000 to 70,000 yen per vehicle, which translates to a 1% to 3% rise. This decision comes as a response to rising raw material costs, particularly steel, which has led the company to pass on some of these increased expenses to customers. However, Nissan has decided to hold off on raising prices for passenger cars, following Toyota Motor Corporation’s move to limit price hikes on certain models, especially hybrids. This marks Nissan’s first increase in commercial vehicle prices since February 1992, signaling a significant shift in its pricing strategy. Specific models affected include the "Atlus H43" (2-ton small truck), which will see a 70,000 yen increase (1.7%), the "AD/AD Expert" commercial van, with a 35,000 yen rise (2.7%), the "Caravan" gaining 30,000 yen (1.6%), and the "BANETTO" model increasing by 50,000 yen (2.9%). In addition, Mazda, which reportedly sources commercial vans from Nissan under an OEM arrangement, is also considering a price increase for its "FAMILIA VAN." This development highlights the broader trend among Japanese automakers to adjust pricing in response to inflationary pressures and supply chain challenges. As the automotive industry continues to navigate economic uncertainties, such moves may become more common across the sector.
