Progress in research on ethanol biosynthesis of Jerusalem artichoke

    China Drying Network News The microbial resources team of the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has made progress in the research of ethanol bioconversion in Jerusalem artichoke. The team obtained a temperature-tolerant inulin-saccharomyces strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The ethanol yield of this strain at 40°C was 79.7%, which is the highest yield of the currently reported non-engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae ethanol fermentation.

    Jerusalem artichoke, also known as Jerusalem artichoke, is a new type of energy plant. The use of Jerusalem artichoke or Jerusalem artichoke industrial waste as raw material for ethanol production is one of the important directions for the development of fuel ethanol. The main polysaccharide component of Jerusalem artichoke which can be converted into ethanol is inulin. Inulinase production, inulin hydrolysis, and ethanol fermentation are integrated into the same process through the integration of bioprocessing technology. It is possible to directly ferment Jerusalem artichoke to produce fuel ethanol.

    Saccharomyces cerevisiae is the best strain for the large-scale production of ethanol, but the strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae that were found in the past have no inulin hydrolysis ability. The team obtained a temperature-tolerant inulin-metabolizing Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain through yeast screening and resistance evaluation. The strain fermented 200 g/L of Jerusalem artichoke powder at 40°C and produced ethanol at 65.2 g/L, ethanol. The yield is 79.7%.

    It is reported that the team's goal in the next stage is to increase ethanol yield from Jerusalem artichoke ethanol fermentation from 79.7% to over 90%, and advance the project to the pilot phase.

    PTFE Lined Elbow

These properties make PTFE an ideal material for lining pipes and fittings that are used in industries such as chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and water treatment.
    The PTFE lining in the elbow provides a barrier between the corrosive fluid and the metal surface of the elbow, protecting the metal from corrosion and extending the life of the pipe fitting. PTFE lined elbows are also resistant to scaling and fouling, which can reduce the efficiency of the fluid transport system.
