One parting post about last week’s commercial fire in Evanston, featuring some great apparatus shots from Steve Redick.
It’s quite rare to see all five Evanston engines operating together at a single fire, and the webmaster can’t recall another instance in recent years where this happened. That alone makes this event stand out.
Steve captured the first known images of the Glenview/Northfield Truck 14/29 in service, labeled as Truck 29. That’s an interesting detail, especially since it's not common to see cross-jurisdictional units clearly marked on scene.
Additionally, both Wilmette and Winnetka engines were seen pumping at the scene. According to Steve, they were temporarily deployed in place of Evanston engines that needed fuel. This shows how departments often support each other during large incidents.
What’s even more intriguing is that this fire involved Engines 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 28 — nearly a full sequence of numbered units. It’s unusual to see such a wide range of engines responding, which speaks to the scale of the incident.
