One parting post about last week's commercial fire in Evanston, featuring some impressive apparatus shots from Steve Redick.
It’s rare to see all five Evanston engines operating together at a single fire, and the webmaster can't recall another instance in recent years where that happened. Steve captured this unique moment, giving us a rare glimpse of coordinated departmental response.
In addition to the Evanston units, Steve also shared the first known shot of the Glenview/Northfield Truck 14/29 in service, labeled as Truck 29. That's an interesting detail, especially since it shows how neighboring departments often assist during large incidents.
Wilmette and Winnetka engines were also on scene, though according to Steve, they were deployed as substitutes for Evanston engines that needed fuel. This kind of mutual aid is common during extended operations, especially when multiple units are involved.
What makes this fire even more notable is the wide range of engine numbers involved: Engines 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 28—almost a full sequence of numerical units. It's a rare sight to see so many engines working together, and the fact that several neighboring departments were also present adds to the significance of the event.
Here are some of the photos from the scene:
