Chicago reported a 2-11 alarm for a fire at 3056 N. Milwaukee Avenue on Monday morning. According to the Chicago Tribune, the blaze broke out at 9:24 a.m. in the two-story building, which housed a bakery on the first floor and apartments above. When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the basement, and the ceiling appeared to be involved in the fire, as reported by fire department spokesman Larry Langford.
Fortunately, no one was inside the building at the time. The structure had been vacant, and emergency crews were able to contain the fire without any injuries. Firefighters initially tried to enter the building but were forced to retreat due to the intense smoke and heat. A Mobile Ventilation Unit was quickly dispatched and deployed to help manage the conditions.
Tim Olk and Steve Redick were on the scene, capturing the event through photos and video. Steve shared a video of the incident, while Tim provided several images that give a clear view of the fire's intensity and the firefighters' efforts.
