Steerprop introduces a new generation of catheter azimuth thrusters

Recently, Finnish propulsion specialist Steerprop has introduced a new generation of catheter azimuth thrusters and upgraded its design to provide higher technical performance.

The new design will use a lighter construction and cast housing and increased ruggedness. The propeller uses a slender body, a smaller hub ratio and a high-performance HJ4 nozzle to increase the bollard pull while optimizing nozzle position, improved hydrodynamic performance and better fuel economy. The anode is also upgraded to a cast shape that does not affect the flow of water.

It is reported that the new propeller also uses a new control system with new features including historical data that can collect performance. This new generation of propellers provides both electric drive control and hydraulic drive control for diesel, electric or hybrid drive systems. A shallow draft version of the propeller designed specifically for confined spaces on board is also available.

Steerprop's propellers are available for flexible installation and overhaul for up to 15 years or more, helping to further extend optional condition monitoring.
