SAN FRANCISCO: Israeli startups focused on using voice instead of passwords said on Monday that it has been acquired by Google.
SlickLogin did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction. Google did not respond to AFP’s request for the acquisition.
"We started slicklogin because security measures have become too complex and annoying," said the startup's three-member team in an article on their website.
"Our friends think we are crazy, but we know we can do better."
SlickLogin said in Tel Aviv that their mission to join the Google team is to make the Internet more secure while keeping the login process simpler.
The company’s founders acted as a cyber security product unit for Israeli defense.
SlickLogin is only two months old and does not have a commercial product, but it is said that development and technology to protect online accounts are similar to sonic handshakes.
The technology involves making almost inaudible sounds through the computer's speakers and then letting the user's smartphone recognize unique tone and physical responses. It is also said that the factor is in the location of the smartphone.
"Just place your phone next to your laptop or tablet and you can log in," SlickLogin said.
SlickLogin technology can replace passwords in some cases, but it is more likely to be called a "two-factor authentication" security role to prevent additional layers of cybercriminals.
