Truck fire in Lake Forest, 1-7-17

This report comes from Niko Stefani: According to him, the Lake Forest Fire Department received an emergency call regarding a semi-truck on fire on southbound Route 41, just north of Deerpath Road near the hospital entrance. Fortunately, the driver managed to detach the burning trailer, which was carrying a load of cheese. Dispatch informed the responding units that the brakes at the back of the vehicle were ablaze. Battalion 42 arrived on the scene to find the trailer completely engulfed in flames. Route 41 had to be closed temporarily, and traffic was rerouted via Gage Lane. Establishing a water supply proved challenging, so Engine 422 had to lay a hose line from the hospital all the way to the incident location. Ernie’s Wrecker Service was called in to tow away the burning trailer. Due to the freezing temperatures, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) was asked to spread some salt on the road to prevent any accidents. Units dispatched from Lake Forest included Squad Company 421, Engine Company 422, Ambulance 421, Utility 421, and Battalion 42. Additionally, support came from Lake Bluff Engine Company 4519 and Knollwood Engine Company 44. Many thanks to everyone involved. --- Here’s a photo captured by Niko Stefani showing firefighters working to extinguish the flames. ![](https://via.placeholder.com/600x400?text=Firefighter+opens+a+hydrant) Another shot taken by Niko shows the intensity of the truck fire along the highway. ![](https://via.placeholder.com/600x450?text=Truck+fire) The image below highlights the severity of the situation as flames consume the trailer. ![](https://via.placeholder.com/600x450?text=Truck+fire+on+the+highway) Finally, here’s a view of the Lake Forest Fire Department's equipment arriving on the scene to assist. ![](https://via.placeholder.com/600x450?text=Lake+Forest+Fire+Department+apparatus) It’s always reassuring to see how quickly emergency responders can mobilize when needed.
