Siemens Energy has received orders for two complete power plants to power offshore drilling platforms, including the Siemens “closed loop solutionâ€. It is reported that the two Frigstad D90(TM) designed seventh-generation semi-submersible drilling platforms are being built by China Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd. The first rig is expected to be delivered to Frigstad Deepwater Ltd in 2015 and the second will be delivered in the next six months. The Siemens order also includes a preference for orders for the same Power Supply system for the other four rigs in four years.
The rig is based on Frigsta Engineering's Frigsta D90(TM) design with a working depth of 12,000 feet and a drilling depth of 50,000 feet. Siemens supplies a complete range of power supply systems, each of which includes medium voltage switchgear, transformers, low voltage switchgear, drilling drives, variable frequency drives and power supply systems for closed loop DP3. The core of Siemens' supply is the design of the closed loop, which is currently the only permanent closure solution that complies with the DNV approval.
