TRW offers two EPS options for all vehicle platforms, all of which consume energy only when they need steering assistance. The first is a column drive unit mounted on a steering column. The other is a belt drive that assists in the direct application of power to a frame equipped with a drive belt and ball nut mechanism. Compared with traditional hydraulic steering, both systems have significant fuel-saving and emission-reduction effects. Based on the test data of a 1.6-liter internal combustion engine, they can save 0.3-0.4 liters of fuel per kilometer and reduce emissions by 7-8 grams.
