Shortly before 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25th, Tower Ladder 14 was heading down Chicago Avenue when they reported seeing smoke in the area and asked if anyone had called in a fire. They thought it might be an auto or garage fire and were trying to locate the source. Within minutes, they came back to confirm that there was a building fire at Karlov. I arrived just after the first units. It turned out to be a pretty intense fire in the rear of an occupied two-flat. Fortunately, the residents weren’t home at the time.
The fire department responded quickly, and crews worked hard to bring the flames under control. From what I saw, the fire was well-ventilated, and firefighters were making good progress. The neighborhood was on high alert, but no one was hurt. It's always a relief when people are safe and the damage is minimized.
