On Sunday afternoon (March 31, 2019), Libertyville firefighters responded to reports of a fire at a residence located at 232 Red Top Drive. Upon arrival, they quickly identified flames spreading across the roof of the building. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the fire was soon escalated to a Box Alarm status as firefighters transitioned to a more defensive strategy. Within a short time, the flames were brought under control after consuming part of the roof and causing significant damage to the second floor of one unit within the multifamily property.
An initial assessment revealed that multiple fire departments had been mobilized to assist, including units from Libertyville, Mundelein, Countryside, Lake Bluff, Gurnee, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Round Lake, and Grayslake. Their coordinated efforts were crucial in containing the blaze before it could spread further.
Attached below are several images captured by Larry Shapiro, providing a glimpse into both the intensity of the fire and its aftermath. These photos vividly illustrate the extensive damage sustained by the cedar shake roof, which bore the brunt of the inferno.
