Libertyville firefighters were called out on Sunday afternoon (March 31, 2019) following reports of a fire at 232 Red Top Drive. They swiftly responded from their nearby station on Golf Road and arrived to find flames spreading across the roof. Not long after, the fire was escalated to a Box Alarm status as firefighters transitioned to a more defensive strategy. The flames were eventually brought under control relatively quickly, having already consumed part of the roof and caused significant damage to the second floor of one unit within the multifamily building.
An incomplete roster of the fire departments present included Libertyville, Mundelein, Countryside, Lake Bluff, Gurnee, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Round Lake, and Grayslake. Their combined efforts were crucial in containing the blaze before it could spread further.
Attached are images taken by Larry Shapiro, capturing the intensity of the fire and its aftermath. The first photo shows the chaotic scene during the incident, while the second reveals the devastation left behind on the cedar shake roof.
