Chicago 2-11 alarm commercial fire 1-26-11 update

Steve Redick captured a series of powerful images from the 2-11 alarm fire that occurred last night at 1896 N. Milwaukee Avenue. His photo gallery, which showcases the intense firefighting efforts, can be viewed [here](#). These images offer a unique and detailed look at how firefighters tackled the blaze under challenging conditions. In one shot, Squad 2's Snorkel is seen in Sector 1, with its bucket extended to reach a small window in a vacant building. This allowed crews to apply water directly to the fire from an elevated position. Steve Redick's photo captures the critical moment when the team used this technique to gain access. Another image shows thick smoke billowing from the structure as firefighters worked with hand lines and elevated master streams to contain the flames. The scene highlights the difficulty of the operation, as the building offered limited access from both the front and rear. A third photo features members of Squad 2 using a thermal imager to locate the fire’s seat through dense smoke. This technology was essential in navigating the hazardous environment and identifying the most effective approach for suppression. Engine 30 is seen tapping a hydrant with two lengths of hard suction hose at the south end of the block, ensuring a steady water supply for the ongoing operations. Meanwhile, an Air Mask Unit was on standby, ready to replace used air cylinders for the responding units—a crucial part of maintaining firefighter safety during long operations. In another shot, Squad 2 waits patiently as commanders consider allowing the fire to burn through the roof. This strategy could provide better access for the Snorkel’s master stream, offering a more efficient way to control the fire from above. These images not only document the event but also illustrate the teamwork, strategy, and determination of the firefighters involved. Steve Redick’s work provides a valuable visual record of a complex and dangerous incident.

    Desilter

Desilter is the third phase solids control equipment to handle the drilling fluids. Generally, there are a set of hydrocyclones in 4" or 6" in the desilter, which mainly used for separating the solid particles sized in 15~47μm from the drilling fluids. The desilter cleaner mainly consists of Shale Shaker, hydrocyclones, distribution manifold, and electric control cabinet and desilter removes the solid particles from the drilling fluids which cannot be removed by shale shaker and Desander.
