Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 11-01-14

Saturday afternoon in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood saw firefighters respond to a fire at a laundromat on the 1100 block of West 31st Street around 1630 hours. According to reports from the 15th battalion, smoke was observed coming from the roof of the building. Witnesses on the scene mentioned that roofers had been working on the structure shortly before the fire broke out. Initially, an aggressive interior firefighting operation was launched, but it had to be called off when the structural integrity of the roof supports became compromised. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the situation was managed with precision by the responding units. I’ve attached several images from the scene, capturing different angles of the firefighting effort. Engines 28 and 39 were the first to arrive and took up positions in front of the building. Engines 8 and 29 arrived subsequently, while Trucks 8 and 4 acted as support vehicles. Tower Ladder 5 also played a critical role in managing the blaze. Additionally, Truck 33 was designated as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT). Here’s a glimpse of the hardworking firefighters in action. The first image shows firefighters wielding pike poles at the scene, ready to tackle any challenges that arose. The following images capture Engines 39, 8, 29, and 28 in action, each contributing to the coordinated effort to extinguish the flames. Another shot highlights firefighters maneuvering a hose line, ensuring maximum coverage of the affected area. A separate image features a snorkel vehicle deployed to provide elevated access for firefighters, while the final picture shows another team with a hose line, demonstrating the teamwork and dedication required in such situations. This incident serves as a testament to the bravery and professionalism of the Chicago Fire Department. I’m grateful to have captured these moments and share them here. Let me know if you need anything further!
