Historic Chicago fire scene with rescue, 11-11-72

Hey everyone, This message comes from Eric Haak. He just shared some really rare images with me—photos of Truck 60 performing a rescue back on November 11, 1972. These were taken by Sylvester Szymczak, a professional photographer who lived in the area. Szymczak also snapped some excellent shots of the Central Manufacturing District fire, likely because he lived so close by. A few years ago, I stumbled upon a collection of his prints and recognized the buildings in these rescue photos as being just about two blocks away from where I live now. Later, while flipping through a logbook from Truck 60, I found an entry for this particular fire, which you can see in the last image. From what I’ve been able to dig up, the person who was rescued ended up surviving. The ambulance in the photos is Ambulance 12. Attached are some of the images from Szymczak's collection. They're fascinating to look at, capturing a moment in history that's not often documented. It’s incredible how these photographs bring that day back to life, showing both the chaos and the heroism involved in firefighting during that era. Take a look at the pictures below. Each one tells its own story, and together they provide a vivid glimpse into the past. Best regards, [Your Name] --- Image Caption 1: Historic Chicago fire scene photo captured by Sylvester Szymczak.
