Hey everyone,
This message comes from Eric Haak, and I just had to share these incredibly rare images of Truck 60 performing a rescue back on November 11, 1972. These pictures were captured by Sylvester Szymczak, a professional photographer who lived in the area. He also snapped some fantastic shots of the Central Manufacturing District fire, probably because he was so close by. I ended up purchasing a collection of his prints and immediately recognized the buildings in this rescue scene as being only about two blocks away from where I live now.
Fast forward a couple of years, and I stumbled upon a logbook from Truck 60. In it, I found an entry for this particular fire, which is shown in the last image below. From what I’ve been able to dig up, the person who was rescued managed to survive. The ambulance you see in the photos is Ambulance 12.
I thought these images were worth sharing because they really capture a moment in time that’s both historic and deeply personal. It’s fascinating to think about how close this event was to my own life today.
Here are the photos:

And here’s a look at the vintage logbook from Truck 60 for that day:

It's incredible to think about how much history is preserved in these images and documents. I hope you all enjoy them as much as I do!
Take care,
