At around 1 AM, firefighters from Libertyville, along with support from neighboring automatic-aid companies, were dispatched to 1470 Greenbriar Drive in Green Oaks (served by the Libertyville Fire Protection District). The call came after a homeowner, alerted by a smoke alarm, discovered that a van parked outside had caught fire and was beginning to spread to the attached garage.
Upon arrival, the first engine company reported significant flames engulfing the roof of the garage. They quickly deployed their deck gun for an initial attack. However, once the engine’s onboard water supply was depleted, they relied on a tanker truck that arrived shortly afterward. A handline was also put into action as the situation escalated. A water shuttle system was established, with successive tanker trucks supplying both the Libertyville tanker and the engine positioned in the driveway.
The incident was upgraded to a Box Alarm, bringing additional tanker trucks to the area due to the lack of nearby hydrants. Although the garage and its contents suffered extensive damage, the fire was successfully contained and did not spread to the main house.
Approximately an hour later, the fire was declared under control, and emergency crews began cleaning up the scene.
Attached are some images captured by Larry Shapiro that provide a glimpse into the response efforts. These photos showcase the intense firefighting action, including engines being refilled by tankers and the dramatic aftermath of the blaze.

This narrative captures the rapid response and coordinated effort required to manage such a challenging fire scenario. The absence of hydrants in the area added complexity, highlighting the importance of having a well-prepared tanker support network. While the van fire posed a significant threat, the swift actions of the Libertyville firefighters prevented further damage to the home, underscoring their dedication and skill.
Ball and Sphere magnets are generally produced using powerful neodymium material and their strength, novel shape and readily available coloured coatings have made them increasingly popular with consumers. Large clusters of small spheres can bind together magnetically and are able to be moulded and manipulated into various shapes that can inspire new and innovative product designs, relieve stress or simply entertain.
